You Don’t Have To Workout Long (Just STRONG)

A question from my main man Brad L.:

“Rhadi, I understand that conditioning workouts should last no longer that 45 minutes. I alternate between bodyweight workouts and weight workouts. I do a full body routine, which takes about 2 hrs with weights, and 1.5 hrs with body weight. Any suggestions on how to shorten the time, other than eliminating exercises?”

Answer:

First of all Brad, thanks for your question.
Secondly, there is no “set” time for how long you should workout. Everyone has their own philosophy about that.

Without getting into a boring philosophical and academic discussion, which I’m more than qualified to have, I’d much rather take the practical approach and have both of us agree that “we all have a lot more important things to do than workout for hours on end!” :-) With work, family and our personal lives, on this I’m sure we can agree.

With that being said, I like to keep my workouts between 30 minutes to 75 minutes.

I shorten this and also make my workouts super effective by utilizing complexes and protocols that allow me to hit many muscles via compound movements to get the maximum amount of caloric consumption and cardiovascular push during my workouts.

You will see that these videos are designed to make sure that you get the best bang for your buck and minimize your work time so that you can maximize your play time.

The best thing that I can tell you is what I tell people who want to be successful –> Don’t reinvent the wheel. I have created some of the best protocols for you so that you can get in and out of your workout.

Since you seem to like to lift, I would recommend Maximum Dumbbell Training. There are 8 circuits avaible for you that you can use along with a good amount of protocols and bonus exercises.

Coach, I Have A Question For You

Question:

“Coach Ferguson in your “Arm Blasters” Protocol in The Total Body Workout (www.TheTotalBodyWorkout.com) your last exercise for biceps the wrist roll ups – I dont feel it in my biceps does that mean im doing it wrong. And I feel it a little bit in my back. Please help me.

Answer:

You shouldn’t feel it in your biceps, you should feel it in your forearms.

Remember is a protocol for the arms.

Also the hammer curls attack the biceps and the brachioradialis (muscles in the forearms). Which means by the second set, your body will be required to use more of your bicep strength to curl the weight and less forearm strength while building up your isometric endurance.

Also, put a slight bend in your knees to take the strain off of your back.

What’s the big deal about Valentines Day?

I mean really?

Every year you make your Valentines Day worse than it could be because you have not and you will not do what you need to do in order to l.o.s.e.

Look, I’m not telling you that you have to walk around like a pair of chopsticks or to be skinny. Hell, I’m not skinny – not at all, but I am healthy.

But you…… You pigheaded and hard-headed knave!

You CONTINUE, in spite of all of the messages that surround you, You CONTINUE, in spite of the picture that you see in the mirror, You CONTINUE, in spite of the fact that you know you’re taking years off your life, You CONTINUE…..

To put the foods in your mouth that are not good for you and now, not only are you going to suffer, but your partner will as well.

1. Write down EVERYTHING that you put in your mouth for a week.

2. Assess what can go and what can stay based upon the checklist that I provide you in The Backyard Workout

3. Make the adjustments and continue to write down what you eat.

4. Get a digital scale and log your weight everyday.

5. Perform The Backyard Workout 3 times a week and the other days just walk (that’s it – NO RUNNING, just walking).

7.  Understand that you can only change your life after you change your mind.

Are you trapped inside of your own body?

I know you’re saying, “What?”

But that’s a real question.

“Are YOU trapped inside of your own body?”

Recently I received an email from one young lady who I went to college with and she told me, “Ferg I never thought that I’d ever get as big as I am now and as outta shape as I am. I was an athlete and now I feel like the real me is trapped inside all of these layers of insulation that I don’t need And its just hard for me.”

I didn’t say anything, understanding that silence promotes conversation and I really didn’t want to interrupt her while she was opening up to me.

She continued:

“I just don’t have the time to workout anymore and between work and church, there’s just no time to do anything. And I’m so embarrassed to go to the gym. I used to be an animal on the soccer field, now I feel worthless.”

WOW!

I thought she’d gone to far to say that she felt worthless, but those are her feelings and they have to be respected.

This is certainly not the time that I wanted to say, “Hey, I can help you, just buy my DVD” :-)

But (and this is a big ‘BUT’) – I’m a fitness professional and my job is to make sure that I can provide the tools and know how to those who need it so that they can get in better shape and lead a better life.
